Concussion Management

Our knowledge and understanding of concussions and how we deal with them has changed a lot, with research strongly recommending an active approach. Physiotherapy is recommended as part of a multidisciplinary approach to concussion management.

Physiotherapy management of concussions includes identifying and

working on the following:

  • Neurological findings

  • Musculoskeletal impairments (eg neck pain and restrictions)

  • Vision and vestibular impairments

  • Balance impairments

  • Exercise/exertional intolerance

  • Mental status (eg mood, concentration, memory)

I have received additional training and mentorship in the management of concussions, working extensively with clients from athletic and non-athletic backgrounds. I am able to help manage your symptoms and facilitate a return to work/school/exercise or sports program.

An important part of the team approach for concussion management is to communicate with other healthcare professionals working with you. I will be regularly communicating and reporting my findings to your rehabilitation team.

If you would like to speak with me further about how physiotherapy can help with your concussion symptoms, please reach out to me and I would be happy to spend some time chatting with you.
