Online consultations are an effective way of providing physiotherapy treatment. During the online physiotherapy assessment, I can get a detailed history of your symptoms, assess your range of motion, your strength, as well as watch you move in a variety of ways that will allow me to make a diagnosis and a physiotherapy treatment plan with you.
Online treatment is focused on self-management techniques and is proven to be an effective tool in treating musculoskeletal injuries. It also allows me to educate you on your injury/condition so that you understand what is happening and what you can do for it. Exercise and education make up the backbone of physiotherapy treatment plans, this does not differ from in-person appointments.
Online consultations were forced upon us here in Ontario due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, they were already widely in use in the UK and Australia (and parts of Canada). Online consultations are proven to be effective in physiotherapy management due to increased access to care. Therefore I am able to see those in rural areas more easily, and those with scheduling difficulties in the Collingwood area.
When appropriate, I use a hybrid model with my clients that will benefit from a combination of both online and in-person physiotherapy treatments. I have in-person appointments for manual therapy, acupuncture, and dry needling treatments, and then use online consultations to review, modify, and progress exercise programs as needed.
